Good morning. On yesterday's status we began giving you a definition of TTP. Today, we will continue explaining about this rare blood disorder.

"Thrombotic" refers to the blood clots that form. "Thrombocytopenic" means the blood has a lower than normal number of platelets. "Purpura" refers to purple bruises caused by bleeding under the skin. (T.T.P)
Bleeding under the skin can cause red or purple dots on the skin. These pinpoint sized dots are called petechiae. Petec ... hiae may look like a rash.
TTP can also cause red blood cells to break apart faster than the body can replace them. This can lead to hemolytic anemia. This is a rare form of anemia.
A lack of activity in the ADAMTS13 enzyme (a type of protein in the blood) causes TTP. The ADAMTS13 gene controls the enzyme which is involved in blood clotting.
Our next lesson will be on the symptoms of TTP.
Please feel free to share these statuses this month on your page. We are joining the Ross family in honoring Mrs Azale Ross this month by educating and raising awareness about the rare blood disorder she succumbed to in October 2013.
